Is it normal for an IH rice cooker to make a slight “zi zi” or sizzling sound when in Keep Warm mode?

1. IH Heating Principle

• Unlike conventional cookers that use a heating plate, IH cookers heat the inner pot directly through electromagnetic induction.

• During Keep Warm mode, the cooker intermittently turns the IH coil on and off to maintain temperature, which produces a light buzzing or sizzling sound.

2. Steam & Rice Contact

• Some residual steam and moisture may still interact with the rice or inner pot surface, creating small popping or sizzling sounds.

3. Normal Phenomenon

• As long as there is no burnt smell, scorch marks, or unusually loud noise, this is completely normal and does not affect food quality or safety.

• Only if the sound is abnormally loud or accompanied by overheating/tripping should inspection be required.
